Neponset River Greenway Council Meeting

Join us for our monthly meeting as we discuss progress of construction of the Neponset Trail and other issues along the Neponset River Greenway with staff from the Mass. Department of Conservation and Recreation, which manages it, the State Police who patrol it, and concerned citizens. Along the Trail:
Dorchester Shore
The segment from Victory Rd. north to Morrissey Blvd should be fully designed by the end of 2016. Money is needed to build it.
The segment between Tenean Beach and Victory Rd. is owned by the Mass. Department of Transportation as frontage for the Southeast Expressway. Coordination between state agencies is needed.
The segment from the drawbridge to UMass/Boston awaits and ongoing redesign of Morrissey Blvd.
Port Norfolk
Port Norfolk Park should be completed by June 30, 2016, if the weather holds.
Mattapan
Construction on the missing mile should be completed by the end of the year.
Discussion is continuing about lighting around Mattapan station and whether the trail should be separated from the station by a chainlink fence, which the T prefers, or a lower guardrail, which the DCR and the Council feel would be safer.
Neponset Greenway Bike Ride, Saturday, March 19, 2016, at 10:00 am
Celebrate the end of winter with a bike ride along Boston Harbor and the Neponset River Greenway from Castle Island to Paul's Bridge and back. We'll be especially interested in looking at the sections where construction will be completed this year, Port Norfolk Park and between Central Ave. in Milton and Mattapan Square. Neponset Estuary Cleanup
The Neponset River Watershed Association (NepRWA) is planning a River Cleanup along the Quincy Riverwalk in conjunction with DCR Park Serve Day on Saturday, April 30 and hopes folks will both plan to attend and spread the word.
They have aspired to be able to expand this cleanup geographically (and the fall one too) but did not get grant funding fora staff member to help with this and other tasks.
If there was a volunteer who wanted to be a site captain for an additional cleanup location on April 30, perhaps on the Dorchester side of the river, NepRWA could potentially try to funnel some volunteers in that direction as well. If anyone is interested please let NepRWA know.
Lower Mills Walk, Saturday, February 27, 2016
A new group, Friends of the Harborwalk, led 39 people on a walk on the trail around Dorchester Lower Mills. Martha McDonough and Jessica Mink represented the Greenway Council, and Jessica took pictures which can be found at http://www.masspaths.net/photos/nep20160227/
